Spiritual Blessings
For I want very much to see you, so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you.
~Romans 1:11 CSB
My five-year-old granddaughter peeked at the Christmas gifts under my tree. She bent over one box and read her name. “This one is for me!” She looked up. “Are there any more for me?”
Physical Blessings
I smiled. “That’s all for now. Isn’t that enough? Do you even remember your gifts from last year? What was your favorite present you received?”
She paused. “I can’t remember.”
Thinking back on my own gifts, I could not remember my presents either. After all of the effort and money put into procuring the right gift for each person, why do we so easily forget them? Is it because we get and give more than is necessary? We’ve lost the beauty of giving or receiving a gift. It has become too commercial.
As I think of the New Year, my heart yearns to give gifts that last. For my New Year’s resolution, I desire to be more of a conduit of the Holy Spirit, bringing spiritual blessings to those around me.
To bring spiritual blessings, I must be intentional. Each day, I must pray for my spiritual and physical eyes to be open to opportunities that allow God to bring spiritual blessings through me. If I’m not looking, then I won’t see. People closest to me are often the easiest to overlook.
Lord, give me eyes to see who and how You want to bless. May I remember this gift for a long time.
Spiritual Blessings
Blessing those around me also requires me to be obedient when the Holy Spirit tugs at my heart. Getting out of my comfort zone is a struggle. It’s much easier to say I’ll pray for someone than to actually engage with that person and talk about the need. Sometimes, it’s as simple as encouraging them in their work or life’s circumstances. Maybe someone needs to know that others see their effort and appreciate it. Often, spiritual blessings come as two words: Thank you.
Lord, when You move in my heart to reach out to someone, help me to be obedient.
As God blesses others through me, I need to write down the blessings so I don’t forget them. Praise for His work and for using me needs to fill my Blessing Journal. This will record the blessing and remind me of God’s love and provision. Whether it’s me rereading the journal or someone else reading it for the first time, the potential for further blessing is possible.
Lord, may I faithfully record Your marvelous deeds as I’m allowed to be used by You for others.
I pray that he may grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with power in your inner being through his Spirit.
~Ephesians 3:16 CSB
Make sure you are sharing spiritual blessings with others. Be open to seeing the opportunities around you for sharing. Pray for the Holy Spirit to lead you to that person you need to bless.
Lord, thank You for the opportunities all around me. Help me to see others with Your eyes and be bold to strengthen and encourage them.
