Confidence in the Battle
Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then I will be confident. One thing I ask from the LORD, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple.
~Psalm 27:3-4 NIV
When my kids were young, we enjoyed reading a book about Louis Pasteur and how he discovered that germs cause rabies and many other illnesses. I don’t remember the title, but the illustrations and descriptions depicted germs as tiny soldiers invading the body. We needed an opposing army to fend them off and defeat them. That army came in the way of a vaccine that Pasteur invented, which provided confidence in the battle.
On a day when my body was assailed by a virus that caused aches, fever, coughing, and fatigue, my daily Scripture reading brought me to just what I needed: a spiritual vaccine to dispel any fear. Although it felt as if a war had broken out against me, making even my skin feel as though tiny bayonets were attacking, and thoughts of potential complications raised my concerns, my confidence remained in God.
As I continue to rely on Him and seek Him, I anticipate reaching my ultimate goal when He brings me into His house forever.
No matter what battles rage in your life, rely on the Lord and find your confidence there.
Father, when the battles rage in and around me, I will find confidence in the battle by relying on You. In Jesus’s name, amen.
