Prepped and Ready

Prepped and Ready

VineWords Devotions and More

Hurricanes Ian and Nicole hit the Florida coast forty-three days apart in 2022. Since I experienced both, I quickly learned the importance of being prepped and ready with multiple backup plans. Pre-prepping for a hurricane requires collecting shelf-stable groceries, buying a large supply of safe water, fueling vehicles, and stashing some cash. Additionally, we needed all life’s important paperwork gathered and near us.  As an actual hurricane approaches, we move the outside furniture in. Dining umbrellas can become javelins. We … Continue reading →

Alarming News

VineWords Devotions and More

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though it waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at it swelling. ~Psalm 46: 1-3 ESV The Attack Sam slept soundly until his alarm clock suddenly awoke him. But his brain couldn’t comprehend the alarming news he saw when he turned on the television. Sam was … Continue reading →

God in the Seasons

God in the Seasons

VineWords Devotions and More

Only two remained. I would soon see God in the seasons. As I sat on my old antique porch glider, I watched as two hummingbirds fought over the lone feeder, hanging just outside my den window. Just a few days before, I had cleaned all my feeders but only put one back in the backyard. And just a few weeks before, a dozen hummingbirds had created a war zone in the back and side yards as they vied for nectar … Continue reading →

Keeping Cool

VineWords Devotions and More

A hot-tempered person starts fights; a cool-tempered person stops them. ~Proverbs 15:18 NLT “I’d like to take ya’ll to lunch. Would that be okay?” I had no idea I was about to get a lesson in keeping cool. When the email invitation arrived, I felt excitement creep over me. I enjoyed our In-Service day since I needed time to catch up on grading papers and do a few other writing projects. But since we only had a few parent-teacher conferences scheduled, … Continue reading →
