My Paw

This is my paw, it belongs to me, but you can shake it if you please.

This is my paw, it belongs to me, it has chased many squirrels up a tree.

This is my paw, it belongs to me, so please do not look at it so sad, when it’s time for me to leave.

For my paw, and all of me will live forever, as long as you remember the good times we had together.

  1. Absolutely beautiful. I am so touched by this poem and am remembering my dogs from the past. Shedding tears of remembrance laced with sadness.

    • Hey Evelyn, I cried too. This poem Ed Chappelle wrote is so touching. He gave me a copy when both my dogs at the time died within months of each other. Thank you, Ed, for sharing this with the VineWords readers so MORE HEARTS, like my sister-friend Evelyn’s, can be touched. This is a very healing poem.

    • Stephanie I am glad that you enjoyed my poem. With dogs it doesn’t matter how bad a day you have, dogs are always happy to see you each time you come back home. Unconditional love is what they give all their lives.

  4. Hi Ed,

    This is beautiful. The more I learn to cherish animals ( I didn’t grow up with pets, but I married into pet fanatics. Lol) the more I appreciate stores and poems about them. We have list several dogs over the years, and it hurts more and more. Tha k you for sharing your heart and for your ministry to them.
