Glenda Shouse: Don’t Miss It!
Zoom! There goes Christmas flying by the same way that motorcycle roared past.
I want my heart to be focused on the important part of the season–Jesus. He is the reason I celebrate and plan special times with family and friends. If I’m not present in the moment, aware of the things filling my heart, mind, and time, I will miss the true celebration, the birth of Jesus.
A big part of Christmas is anticipating the special day. As I focus my attention on preparing my heart through prayer and worship of my Savior, then I am ready to encourage and celebrate with others.
As Mary said in Luke 1:53 NIV,
He has filled the hungry with good things, but has sent the rich away empty.
During our waiting season before the arrival of the big event, let’s have hungry hearts for the wonder and the splendor of our Savior to be birthed in us once again.
The satisfaction of hunger in my heart is more important than putting up a tree or selecting gifts for family and friends. In Matthew 5:6 NIV we are given this promise,
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
With an open heart receive the wonder of the season, Jesus, our Lord and Savior, and be filled.
Share three ways you prioritize the birth of Christ during your Christmas festivities.
Lord Jesus, thank You for this season of preparation. Create in us a hunger for You.
Amen.
