But Wait There’s More
One regular Sunday, I asked my nephew and his wife to dinner. The menu, while simple, was served in courses. We started with a savory cup of clear soup, then moved to a lovely plated salad. The main course of seared sea scallops, sauced pasta, and roasted asparagus followed. We finished with a fruity and fluffy dessert. Between each course, I cleared the dishes. Each time, my nephew joked, “But wait. There’s more?”
We will react the same way to all God gives us when we accept that everything in our lives is from Him.
God himself will fill you with more. Blessings upon blessings will be heaped upon you and upon your children from the maker of heaven and earth, the very God who made you!
~Psalm 115:14-15 TPT
We all have blessings upon blessings, maybe more than we realize. Let’s count a few obvious ones. We woke up this morning. We have a home. People populate our lives. And the God of the universe loves us. But wait—there’s more!
God has promised to protect us. He provides for us and has created us with a unique purpose. He forgives us completely and thoroughly. On top of that, He constantly offers us His never-ending love, grace, mercy, and path to peace.
But wait. There’s even more!
One of my favorite blessings is the hope He gives. Hope involves anticipation. It makes us more alert and causes us to seek God’s will more seriously. Hope begs us to stand on our tiptoes to see what’s coming next. Hoping for what tomorrow will bring, for all He has planned for us, and for the day He returns. We wait in eager expectation.
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you.
~1 Peter 1:3-4 NIV
I cleared the dishes after every course of our Sunday dinner to make room for what was coming next. Maybe, just maybe, God does the same. When our hope is in Him, we will spend the rest of our lives knowing that when He clears one course away, He plans to serve up something bigger, better, and sweeter.
What if we truly believed, with hope and anticipation, that every change of course in our life is God’s avenue to serve up what’s next? We can because we know there’s always more to come.
Think of a recent change that initially caused you to grieve before you saw God’s more.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for allowing me to see Your hand in my journey. Help me to trust You more and never underestimate Your plans for my life. I will wait in hope-filled anticipation when change occurs, always believing You have a better plan. In Jesus’ name, amen.
