Ben Cooper: Ordinary Made Holy
~2 Corinthians 5:17b NLT
Anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!
Have you ever seen the Anheuser-Busch Clydesdales in person? These famous animals are magnificent.
It’s not just the horses themselves with their muscular stature and distinctive colorful markings that are impressive but also the ornate tack they wear and the wagon that accompanies them that catches our attention. Eight massive horses are hitched as four pairs to pull the wagons. The Anheuser-Busch company owns approximately 250 Clydesdales, which is considered the largest herd in the world. Those who get the opportunity to see these beautiful creatures stand in awe. If there were such a thing as the top seven wonders of the animal world, these impressive equines would surely make the list.
In comparison to the Clydesdales, my grandfather’s horses looked ordinary. I grew up living next door to the family farm, so I got to see my grandfather hitch up his beloved horses to farm equipment using ordinary black leather harnesses. There was nothing fancy about this tack. Rather than being for show, these harnesses served their purpose of pulling a buggy, sleigh, wagon, or plow.
~Zechariah 14:20 ESV
On that day there shall be inscribed on the bells of the horses, “Holy to the LORD.” And the pots in the house of the LORD shall be as the bowls before the altar.
The above scripture in Zechariah tells of a coming day when the Son of God will return to establish His earthly kingdom. When our Messiah reigns, everything will honor Him, right down to the bells on the harness of the horse teams. The tack will glorify our Lord and Savior. I can’t help but think of this Clydesdale team which will look ordinary compared to our Savior’s horse-drawn chariot which will be fashioned to reflect the holiness of God.
~2 Corinthians 3:18 ESV
And we, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
When it comes right down to it, I am just an ordinary person. There is nothing special about me. But God has called me unto Himself, and He is transforming me into something new. I have been born again and set apart as holy to the Lord. I am continually being changed from ordinary to extraordinary because of my connection with Jesus Christ.
Friend, God has a plan and purpose for you that extends beyond this mortal life. You are being transformed into something brand new as you believe in Jesus Christ the Savior of the world. Permit Him to transform you day by day. You also are becoming extraordinary because of Christ in you.
When Christ returns, all the great wonders of the world will pale in comparison to Him. On that day, all the creation will worship and honor the Lord. Right down to the bells of the harness on the horses and the messages written on those bells. I await the day with rapt anticipation when His holiness will be proclaimed for all to see.
What do you imagine Jesus’ chariot will look like?
Lord Jesus, it is hard to fathom what it will be like when I see You in person on the day of Your return. Thank You for transforming me to reflect Your holiness day by day. You alone are holy, and I surrender my life to You. Amen.
