Troubled
Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, shew me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight: and consider that this nation is thy people. And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.
~Exodus 33:13-14 KJV
Moses was troubled.
TROUBLED
Under God’s authority, Moses led the children of Israel out of Egypt. But he was troubled because they had become stiff-necked, and disobedient. They turned to their own ways and refused to follow his leadership. After spending so much time in the wilderness and not getting any closer to the Promised Land, even Moses started to doubt their venture. They were becoming spiritually lost.
In Exodus 33:13-14, Moses expressed his desire to see God’s glory. Even though he knew God had led him to lead the Israelites out of Egypt, he needed reassurance that God would continue to go with them. God sent a cloudy pillar to the door of the Tabernacle, then spoke to Moses. The Israelites worshipped God as they saw this cloudy mist. They knew it was God. This is the reassurance they needed to continue.
Jesus Promises to Send the Comforter
But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me.
~John 15:26 KJV
When terrible things happen in our lives, we may also feel troubled and think God has abandoned us. This might even cause us to doubt our salvation. But we can take heart. God is still with us. When Jesus left the earth, He promised He would send the Holy Spirit to comfort us. Christ’s promise is for us, not just for His twelve disciples. So, claim this promise! We can trust the Lord to give us the rest we need even during troubling times. Rest in Jesus’ promise that God will always be there for you.
What are some ways you can trust God to direct your life?
Heavenly Father, when things don’t happen as fast as I think they should, I tend to get discouraged and doubtful. It is then that I sometimes do my own thing rather than following Your ways. Help me to realize and act upon the fact that it’s only when I follow Your leadership that I’ll feel less troubled. Instead, I’ll be able to live a more satisfying life. In Jesus’ name, amen.
