Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.~Colossians 3:12 NIV
It’s that time of year when it’s cold enough for crystal flakes of snow to fall from the sky, covering the landscape in a picturesque blanket of white. Despite its beauty, snow has challenges. Travel can be difficult. That’s when I met a lady who graced me with a random act of kindness.
I was brushing snow off my car after work when a colleague approached me. She asked if I wanted help removing the snow. Then she took her brush that had an extra-long handle and whisked the snow off the roof of my car.
This sweet woman told me she had been dreading the end of the workday, knowing we would have to deal with snow removal, and yet there she was helping me. With a pep in her step, she proceeded to brush the snow off adjacent cars whose owners were not present. Then she left. I was struck by her acts of kindness as well as her choice to remain anonymous.
Like snowflakes, let’s scatter kindness wherever we go.~Maria T. Henriksen, contributing author to Love Knots: Stories of Faith, Family, and Friendships
Friend, we are called to be like this lady–kind, without expecting anything in return. She was doing deeds out of love for others just as God does because He loves us, and it is His nature to be kind. Let’s do kind deeds not because we know we will be rewarded. Rather, let’s do these out of the goodness of our hearts that are attuned to the Master.
Especially during tough times, even one act of kindness can go a long way to bring a smile. Like snowflakes, let’s scatter kindness wherever we go.
Whoever pursues righteousness and kindness will find life, righteousness, and honor.~Proverbs 21:21 ESV
Whom might you bless with a kind deed today?
Heavenly Father, thank You for the grace You bestow upon me. As an act of gratitude to You, help me to extend kindness to everyone I meet.
In Your Son Jesus Christ’s precious Name, Amen.
