Kindness Matters
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
~Colossians 3:12 NIV
Kindness matters.
Winter is that time of year when it’s cold enough for crystal flakes of snow to fall from the sky, covering the landscape in a picturesque blanket of white. Despite its beauty, snow has challenges. Travel can be difficult
I once met a lady who graced me with a random act of kindness. I was brushing snow off my car after work when a colleague approached me. She asked if I wanted help. Then she took her brush that had an extra-long handle and whisked the snow off the roof of my car.
This sweet woman told me she had been dreading the end of the workday, knowing we would have to deal with snow removal, and yet there she was helping me. With a pep in her step, she proceeded to brush the snow off adjacent cars. Then she left. I was struck by her act of kindness as well as her choice to remain anonymous.
Whoever pursues righteousness and kindness will find life, righteousness, and honor.
~Proverbs 21:21 ESV
God wants us to be like this lady–kind, expecting nothing in return. She did deeds out of love for others just as God does. God loves and expresses it through kindness. Let’s do kind deeds, but not because we know we will be rewarded. Rather, let’s do them out of the goodness of hearts attuned to the Master.
Especially during tough times, even one act of kindness can go a long way to bring a smile. Like snowflakes, let’s scatter kindness wherever we go.
Whom might you bless with a kind deed today?
Heavenly Father, thank You for the grace You bestow upon me. As an act of gratitude to You, help me to extend kindness to everyone I meet. In Jesus’ name, amen.
