Spiritual Timidity
Snookered
Don’t be afraid. Stand firm and watch GOD do his work of salvation for you today.
Exodus 14:13b MSG
Don’t ask me how I know this, but the enemy has us snookered. He has the vast majority of us anxious and trembling in our boots. If we could, we would hide beneath spiritual blankets, cowering in spiritual timidity until morning light when this nightmare is over. In reality, this situation is smoke and mirrors.
A Formidable Opponent
Don’t get me wrong. The enemy is a formidable opponent. He does have power. He is the “prince of the power of the air,” “ruler of demons,” “ruler of the world,” and the “god of this age.” But he is no match for our God.
A Greater God
Satan’s minions may observe our actions and weaknesses, but he has grossly underestimated us. When we submit to God, His power is within us, and we are unstoppable.
The one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.
~1 John 4:4 NIV
Believing God’s Word
Our opponent entices us to frighten and discourage us. He strives to dupe us into disobedience and fear. Without these measures—when we stay the course and follow God’s plan—the enemy goes down hard in defeat. His only hope is to take as many casualties as possible with him on his way to the pit.
Fighting
We fight the enemy, not with our wits but with the Word of God. We should hide it in our hearts. In the hands of a believer submitted to God, God’s Word is a powerful weapon.
We have no reason to fear when we put on the whole armor of God. We can resist the devil and stand firm on the Word of God. Then, the enemy will turn and flee.
Our God goes before us, surrounding us on all sides. God can use every plan the enemy has and turn it to good to make us stronger.
Conquering
If we stand firm to the end, we will see the salvation of the Lord and receive a glorious inheritance. No one is an exception. Our success has nothing to do with our power but everything to do with God’s. We must simply trust Him.
How can you be more effective in speaking and believing God’s Word?
Father God, remind me of who You are, whose I am. In You, I have the power, authority and tools You have given me through Jesus Christ. I cast off spiritual timidity. I put on Your armor, Your robe of righteousness, and a garment of praise. Go before me. And when the devil sees me coming, may he be afraid. In Jesus’ name, amen.
