Glenda Shouse: Rescued
Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?
~Hebrews 1:14 NIV
Our truck coughed, sputtered, and died on an Alaskan highway in the middle of nowhere. No amount of coaxing worked to restart it.
“Now what Lord? Right now, we need You to send help.” That was our prayer as the temperature continued to drop. There was no service station, garage, or towing service available. We found ourselves feeling desperate.
Tired of waiting, my husband decided to look for help. Wrapped in a sleeping bag, I continued to pray fervently.
Out of nowhere a small car appeared. The driver motioned for me to get in. We found my husband, and he gladly climbed into the backseat, where two friendly dogs greeted him. Our angel lady took us to a garage and told the owner to treat her friends fairly. He towed and repaired the truck, and we were back on the road.
The apostle Peter found himself in a desperate place also. King Herod had him arrested and imprisoned and planned to hold a public trial after Passover. Peter was in prison, but the church was praying for him. While he was sleeping in chains between two soldiers, Peter saw a light, and an angel of the Lord appeared. The angel struck Peter on the side, which woke him up. As Peter got up, the chains fell to the floor. With the angel’s help, he safely escaped (See Acts 12:1-17a).
Our situation was not as dire as Peter’s, but it could have become a life-threatening event because of the freezing weather and lack of a warm shelter. God was right on time with the help we needed. Psalm 91:11 says, “For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.” Father God sent the help we needed right on time.
Have you found yourself in a dire situation? How did the Lord rescue you?
Heavenly Father, what an amazing God You are, providing help in every situation, if only I will seek You. Thank You that You do send help in my time of need, dispatching angels to come to the rescue. In Jesus’ name, amen.
