Diane Virginia: The 24-7 Follower
Be ye followers of me. 1 Corinthians 4:16b KJV
We’ve heard the line, “Follow me on Facebook.” We do follow friends on Facebook and on other social platforms. We enjoy reading their advice, laughing when they share a funny incident, celebrating their accomplishments, and we also enjoy praying for them. Most have common interests; others have talents we aspire to learn, but the underlying reason that motivates us to connect is our common interest in the Lord Jesus Christ. We are united in Him. Therefore, we are more than “friends;” we are the “family” of God.
Paul did not have Facebook followers, but he did have followers. Why? He connected with friends who shared his common goal to promote Christ. It was Paul’s desire to connect with his followers in a life-altering way, and he knew his unshakable faith in Jesus was what made the difference. He was dedicated to teaching his followers how to live a life of integrity, how to overcome obstacles, and how to persevere through trials, by following Jesus’ teachings. We could go so far as to say Paul was a 24-7 follower of the Lord Jesus Christ. Once Paul realized who Jesus was, he followed Him with a zealous passion. And so, he said with a humble but sincere heart, “follow me.” Why? Because he knew he followed Christ, he hoped we would share his desire to make Jesus known.
Jesus said, “Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.” (Matthew 4:19) Like Paul, Jesus wants us to have followers because our message about Him matters. When we are a 24-7 follower of the Lord Jesus Christ, we share a vital message indeed–it is the Person, Jesus Christ.

When I was a younger, I never wanted to be “a follower.” I’m blessed to now know that following Jesus is truly all that matters. At this point to be called His “sheep” is the highest compliment anyone could ever pay me.
Yes! Amen, sister. 🙂
Love your devotion, Diane. May we all be avid followers of Jesus and become enthusiastic fishers of men!
Amen, sister. 🙂
