For Such a Time as This
Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this.
~Esther 4:14b NKJV
Imagine a stranger approaching us when we were away from home and telling us that we were at that location “for such a time as this.”
This happened to my husband and I when we were on our honeymoon. At the time, a move of the Holy Spirit happened in Toronto, Canada, in a church/Bible college near the airport. We decided to visit.
After arriving at the campus, we learned that people had come from all over the area to “catch the fire,” as they described the Spirit’s movement in students’ on-campus meetings. The school had come to a standstill due to the students’ zeal.
Following one of those meetings, a local minister approached my husband and me with his pronouncement. But what did for such a time as this mean? After a few moments, we chuckled and walked away. Over the years, however, I found that phrase continued to follow me. The pastor had spoken truth that we still cherish.
I wonder what Queen Esther thought when Mordecai said the same thing to her. She also lived in uncertain times, just as we do today. She suddenly found herself positioned as queen to a pagan king, but in a foreign land rather than her homeland. But Esther took those words seriously and decided to fast for God’s people so she could discern God’s strategy for them. She risked her life to put God’s plan into place. Through these bold actions, she saved her people.
Therefore, whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven.
~Matthew 10: 32a NKJV
We live in a world where our challenges can cause us to retreat. Jesus Christ’s ways are often contrary to worldly ways. But we have a choice. We can follow what the world proclaims as truth or follow Christ’s ways. We can stand for righteousness even when people pressure us to do otherwise.
When we confess Jesus and His righteousness before others, Christ will confess us before His Father, the maker of heaven and earth.
When your actions contradict worldly ways, and people question them, acknowledge Jesus Christ despite these challenges.
Lord Jesus, give me the courage to stand with You and not fear what others might think of me. If I stumble, help me quickly return to You and try again. Amen.
