Eyes to See
I have eyes to see the wonders around me. So, I often play a game with my grandchildren to get them to notice the world God orchestrated. It begins with “Ridley, Ridley, Ree, I see something you don’t see.”
One thing I have desired of the Lord, That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord All the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the Lord, And to inquire in His temple.
Psalm 27:4 NKJV
Eye Clinics
When we take Eye Clinics to Uganda, people come who don’t have the benefit of sight. Agnes had no vision for forty years. A pair of thick glasses gave her the ability to see. Elderly came. Wee little ones came. Some desperately needed sight. Others just needed a little help with readers, but all were so grateful.
I was blind, and now I can see!
John 9:25 NLT
Glasses
Glasses are a wonderful tool. They have prisms of graduated glass to enhance the image before them. Imagine the awe of that first time donning a pair of glasses. The smile starts slowly for some then bursts with joy. For others, it is an instantaneous reaction. Colors liven. Images sharpen. Adventure looms.
Open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things from Your law.
Psalm 119:18 NKJV
A New Perspective
What if I got a new look at God’s Word? Often my eyes become dull with familiarity when I don’t change up my routine of one version of the Bible or one plan of study. The Lord wants to illuminate our time in His Word with color, images, and adventure. He wants to offer us vibrant faith.
When Agnes received the glasses that changed her vision, she couldn’t keep the news to herself. She came back to tell others who were being examined, just as the Samaritan woman did.
“Come and see a man who told me everything I ever did . . . Many Samaritans from the village believed in Jesus because the woman had said, ‘He told me everything I ever did’” (John 4:29, 39 NLT)!
I want to be like Agnes—to seize opportunities to tell people about the wonderful things God has shown me in His Word and the healing touch He has placed on the eyes of my heart.
“Open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest” (John 4:35 NIV).
Think of ways you can reach out to those who are blind to God.
Lord, place Your glasses on the eyes of my heart so that I can see Your perspective on the world You love.
