Keep It Simple
“Keep it simple,” Susan would say.
The Issue
Susan referred to what we believe about our relationship with the Lord. And truly it is simple when we think about it. The Bible says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16 NIV). And, “Whosoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:13 NIV).
Paul writes, “If you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved” (Romans 10:9-10 NIV).
Simple, clear truths point the way to salvation. God is so good and wants us to know Him. He loves us so much that He makes sure to keep the way simple.
I am the way and the truth and the life.
~John 14:6 NIV
Susan also said, “Don’t forget your first Love.” Unfortunately, we wander and drift so easily. We get involved in many things and forget the Lord’s love for us.
This is love; not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.
~1 John 4:10 NIV
The only reason we can return God’s love is because “He first loved us” (1 John 4:19b NIV).
Lastly, Susan advised, “Remember why you love Jesus.”
The Solution
We love God because of who He is and all that He has done for us. On the cross, Jesus said, “It is finished.” Yes, His life on earth was finished, but the statement means more than that. Jesus did what we could not do: settle our account with God. The sinless one became sin for us and received the punishment we deserved. By accepting His finished work on the cross, we are placed in a right standing with God. Father God makes us His children through Jesus’ work on Calvary’s cross.
Ask God to help you keep the message of God’s love simple when you share it.
Lord Jesus, thank You for loving me and for willingly sacrificing Your life to save mine. Amen.
