Where Do You Live
If asked, “Where do you live,” we could quickly provide our home address complete with zip code. We would probably hesitate, though, if asked where our heart resides. The answer could prove insightful if we paused and asked ourselves that question.
My daughter had an opportunity to pick up some fresh star fruits from a friend and asked me to ride with her. We allowed the GPS to lead us along the route without much thought until our final turn. We were on Harmony Avenue. Our next turn was a left onto Hope Street, but I yelled, “Wait. Stop the car!”
I ran into the quiet intersection of Hope and Harmony for a photo. How cool would it be to live on that corner? Imagine, even more, how our lives would change if we all moved to the crossroads of Hope and Harmony in our minds.
God’s Word offers a simple if/then solution for moving a little closer to that neighborhood.
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
~Philippians 4:6-7 NLT
I do not believe anyone chooses to live at the corner of Chaos and Unrest or down the street where Fear and Overwhelm intersect. But most of us have experienced times when we tried to focus our hearts on peace, and our heads moved in the opposite direction. Let’s face it, our brains wander and need redirecting often. At least mine does. Perhaps we would find life easier if we offloaded the job to the One who is more capable.
Letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.
~Romans 8:6b NLT
Where would you like for your heart and mind to naturally land?
Father, help me to pray about everything and allow Your Spirit to lead my heart and mind away from chaos and fear. Instead, move me more toward peace and the hope and harmony You alone can give. In Jesus’ name, amen.
