Trusting God in Life’s Uncertainties
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
~Genesis 1:1-3 NLT
As a child, I dreaded nightfall. I feared the unseen and let my unrestrained imagination wander. Once tucked beneath the covers, darkness settled into every corner, turning shadows into silent figures. Panic rushed in, swift and unrelenting. Sometimes when I’m alone, those old, unfounded fears reemerge. Only this time, their forms have changed. So has my response. I have learned a little about trusting God in life’s uncertainties.
We’ve all wrestled with fear. We fear losing our financial security, our health, our faith. Many of us fear the unknown.
I’ve sometimes failed to understand God’s plan and questioned whether I could find peace during the uncertainties I faced. I now realize that were it not for these dark seasons, I would never have discovered that God’s word was the remedy for my heart’s deepest despair.
Genesis describes a vast expanse of disorder, with the earth cloaked in darkness and marked by chaos. When God spoke, the universe responded. His words brought forth light, bringing order to bedlam. This narrative reminds us that everything is under God’s sovereign care.
God’s Spirit still hovers over His creation. We don’t have to fear when there’s upheaval in our lives. God can speak a word and bring peace amid unpredictability. He will bring order to our disordered hearts and hope where desperation dominates. God’s light will emerge in our circumstances as we continue trusting Him despite life’s unknowns.
The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?
~Psalm 27:1 NIV
If fear has taken up residence in your heart, you’re not alone. Take a moment to turn to Christ and surrender your concerns to Him. I have found Him faithful, and so will you.
God has never failed and never will. Trust Him.
Heavenly Father, dispel the fear in my heart and quiet my troubled soul. Help me walk with the assurance that what I cannot see or understand, I can entrust to the God I know.
