The Snowplow
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your way acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.
~Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV
The road was snowy and icy. I was nervous as I headed to town. But up ahead along the highway, I saw a sight that greatly eased my mind. Blue and red flashing lights signaled a snowplow ahead.
Many drivers are frustrated when they see those lights because they must slow down. Yet, I heave a sigh of relief, knowing that the snowplow, although traveling more slowly, goes ahead of me and makes my path straight and safe.
As I delighted in the clear highway, I pondered how God does this for us when we trust Him instead of our understanding. Trusting in ourselves is easy when we are young and think we know everything. As we age, we have learned a lot of things. This, in turn, can create a false sense of security when it comes to forging ahead with projects and ideas without first consulting God.
If we want to get where we are going and accomplish our goals, we must forge ahead into new experiences and relationships. But, we must not lean on our understanding. God’s ways are always the best. He knows the ins and outs of every situation. He knows our hopes and dreams and what He has placed within our hearts. God knows each pothole, each valley and hill, each dead end, every curve and roadblock, and each detour. Therefore, who better to guide and direct our plans, timing, and travels than God? No one at all.
Implore the Holy Spirit daily to remind you to trust the Lord with all your heart and not lean on your own understanding. Acknowledge Him in all your ways. He will make your paths straight now and always.
Father God, thank You that You alone can always be trusted and counted upon to make my pathways straight. Help me to take the time to trust and acknowledge You and Your ways ahead of my own. In Christ’s name, amen.
