The Secret of Peace
If you struggle with discouragement, you can uncover the secret of peace.
Alex was his name, and the mere glimpse of his name in my daily schedule brought a smile to my face. When I opened the door to my office, he seemed to let the sunshine itself in. His bright smile, exuberant laugh, and kindness filled the room.
Alex lived in the neighborhood, and I often saw him walking past my window with his guide dog, Buddy. Alex amazed me. Walking half a block blindfolded would terrify me. I once asked him how he could be so confident and joyful on his long daily walks. He reached his hand to touch his companion. “I know Buddy. I’ve learned to trust him completely. He brings me peace.”
We all experience life visually impaired. Therefore, what little we do see of our circumstances is unclear, and we often misunderstand them. Our shortsightedness and lack of understanding can cause us to draw false conclusions about our circumstances and even God Himself.
For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
~1 Corinthians 13:12 KJV
One day, we will stand before God and our faith will be made sight. Until then, we can know peace in constant companionship with the Spirit’s guidance.
However, no amount of head knowledge can provide the resilient peace that comes with the heart knowledge of intimate relationships. Peace comes with knowing the person of the Holy Spirit—His character, nature, and faithfulness—and investing our complete trust in His leading.
We all come before the Father with blind eyes and needing a guide. Invite the Lord to reveal Himself, so you can know Him as He intimately knows you.
Father, make me sensitive to Your leading, with ears attentive to Your whispers. Teach me to move as You move—in step with the one who loves and dances over me. And may I find lasting peace as I put my trust in You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
