The Path of Delight
Direct me in the path of your commands, for there I find delight.
~Psalm 119:35 NIV
I needed to travel the path of delight, regardless of my feelings.
Standing in front of a crowd and speaking tends to intimidate me and fills me with anxiety. Thus, one evening when I received a text asking me to pray about sharing my testimony at an upcoming women’s breakfast at church, sleep evaded me into the wee hours.
Then I spent time asking the Lord to fill me with eager anticipation and happy excitement rather than dread and reluctance. He has led me through so many challenges and brought levels of healing that I didn’t think were possible. He’s blessed me with the ability to convey my thoughts, insights, and feelings through writing. Additionally, He’s given me an avenue to share those pieces with a larger online audience.
In assessing whether this invitation was His leading to accept, my desire was that it not be for my own attention or admiration, although it is not wrong to receive attention or admiration. I began to see it as an opportunity. Through what I’ve experienced, God will use it to benefit others and ultimately point them to Jesus, giving Him glory. Having the Holy Spirit enabling and strengthening me, God will fill my path with delight.
We search for and pursue delight in many ways, but only in Jesus can truly satisfy us.
Think of some ways that you see the Lord directing you and in which you will find delight.
Father, keep me traveling on the path of delight, so that I might experience Your blessings and then bless others. In Jesus’s name, amen.
