Light Of Humanity

The modern world calls life’s beginning a clump of cells. Humanism seeks to explain away the miracle of creation with cold, scientific words like fetus, embryo, or zygote. Words that numb the conscience. Definitions that excuse atrocious actions. The Bible offers a different interpretation by pointing us to the light of humanity. 

In Him was life, and the life was the Light of mankind.

~John 1:4 NASB2020

In 2016, researchers filmed a spark of life, a fluorescent light, emitted when a sperm cell fertilized an egg cell and marked the beginning of a new life. Not just a clump of cells. The light of life is released to mark the beginning of a baby’s development. Since each child is made in the image of God, and since God is light, it seems fitting for life to begin with light. To deny the humanity of the new life is to deny the Creator.

Light of Knowledge

Knowing someone brings importance and validity to a person. Ask any kindergarten student performing for a group of parents. What do they do? They look for their parents and wave. They know them and want to establish that contact. A clump of cells is not knowable, yet God tells us He knew us before we were born. 

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you.

 God is at conception. He knows us. He created us. We are important to Him.

For You created my innermost parts; You wove me in my mother’s womb.

~Psalm 139:13 NASB2020

Conception is not a mistake or an accident. It is a baby. And the baby is known by God; therefore, the child is important. Someone knows them.

Light of Love

When a kindergarten child waves, they say they know and love the parent. But our heavenly parent loves us even more. 

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

~Romans 5:8 NASB2020

God’s love for us went all the way to the cross. His love is for a person, not just a clump of cells. He created, knew, and loved us from the very beginning; therefore, we have value. All the scientific words in the world cannot erase the spark of life that has now been captured on film. 

Don’t allow secular explanations to numb you to the truth of life’s beginning. 

Lord, help me today to celebrate the miracle of life and show those around me the awesome love of the Creator, regardless of their ideals. Help me to point them toward love, forgiveness, and restoration. Amen.
