Practical Ways to Bless Your Child
There are practical ways to bless your child.
The Personal Sacrifice
On your mark. Get set. Bang! After the official pulled the trigger, the runners exploded out of their ready-to-launch positions. Huge clusters of colors began the race together. My son stood among the blur of green, representing his college. It took six laps around the field of my alma mater to complete the 6K race. But for my family, the race was over in twenty-two minutes.
Was it worth it for my husband and me to drive more than two hours for a twenty-two-minute race? Yes. This was our son’s first college cross-country race. Without a doubt, we’d do it again. He’s our son, and family means everything. Our presence at the race meant a lot to him, as well.
Likewise, our heavenly Father made a sacrifice for us. In fact, He made the ultimate sacrifice by sending His son to die on the cross.
We love because he first loved us. ~1 John 4:19 NIV
The Ultimate Sacrifice
To watch our son’s face light up upon seeing us was worth the time and travel. He proudly introduced us to his friends on the team, and they commented on how fortunate our son was to have us come watch his race. Additionally, by showing our child we loved him, we created a secure path of joy on which our son could build his successes.
My child, if your heart is wise, then my heart too will be glad. ~Proverbs 23:15 ESV
The Bible teaches that actions that show our love and support for our children are what matters. Allowing the Holy Spirit to guide and direct our ways in a loving manner is proof we are God’s children. We will do what it takes to share His love with our immediate family members in practical ways, such as showing up for a race.
Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. ~1 Timothy 5:8 NIV
Just as our heavenly Father loves and supports us, we should do the same with our children, praying that they will follow our example as we follow Christ’s. This will look different for each person. But if you couple your love with the guidance of God’s Spirit, you will bless a loved one, which will impact their life.
Share three practical ways you can bless your family members.
Father God, thank You for providing me with the best examples of love and support. Give me the opportunity to bless my family members in ways that will touch their hearts. In Jesus’s name, amen.
