Peace No Matter the Circumstances
Maintaining a sense of peace no matter the circumstances is huge for me. I am usually plagued with worry and fear. Lately, I’ve been consistently calm, even when troubling events and unsolvable problems have crossed my path.
How can this be? When I see what is going on around me, I am shocked that I’m not inwardly cringing or fretting. I have been pressing into God, asking (more like begging) Him to help me trust Him completely. Along with prayer, I submerged myself in God’s Word, memorizing verses that pertain to trust. And there are so many. Trust is difficult, probably because the struggle is real, and we need all the help we can get.
God is good like that. Therefore, every day, I ask the Holy Spirit to refill me with Himself, to overflow.
The fruit of the Spirit [the result of His presence within us] is love [unselfish concern for others], joy, [inner] peace, patience [not the ability to wait, but how we act while waiting], kindness, goodness, faithfulness.
~Galatians 5:22 AMP
Aha! Peace is a fruit of the Holy Spirit. So, thanks to the Spirit, I have peace like a river, like the hymn of the same name, flowing in my soul. Only the Holy Spirit can provide a constant state of peace that circumstances cannot interrupt. This peace is nothing I did, but something I asked for. And God provides. Again, He’s good like that.
But how can we hold onto this victory? How can we keep from allowing our minds to revert to worry mode? Like everything else in life, we must look to Jesus and to what His Word tells us about Him.
Therefore, if you have been raised with Christ, keep seeking the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
~Colossians 3:1 NASB
Also, we need to remember that Jesus is the Prince of Peace.
For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
~Isaiah 9:6 NLT
Think of circumstances in your life where the Prince of Peace doesn’t reign. Then ask for His peace.
Heavenly Father, please show me where I lack total trust in You, so that I can be filled with Your peace. I ask for a fresh filling of the Helper, the Holy Spirit, to partake in His fruit. In Jesus’ name, amen.
