New Every Morning
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
~Lamentations 3:22-23 ESV
Do you remember playing games at recess? Inevitably, someone yelled, “Do over!” when the game didn’t go the way they thought it should. As an adult, I realize do-overs aren’t always an option. Mistakes are learning experiences and opportunities for growth. There have been times when I felt my failures would be fatal, but God’s “new every morning” mercies never fail.
But God’s mercy is not just for mornings. His mercy is available every minute. When we lose patience with our children or spouse. When we let worry trample our faith. His mercy is present when we give in to that sinful habit once again. Or when our daily faith walk looks more like a limp. Every moment is the perfect time to pause and pray for a new start.
I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,” and you forgave the iniquity of my sin.
~Psalm 32:5 ESV
If you need a do-over, ask God for a long drink of His mercy right now.
Lord, I blew it. Please forgive me. Can I have a do-over? In Jesus’s name, amen.
