Life Is a Juggling Act
Splat! I dropped one of the eggs I was juggling—at least, that’s what it felt as if I was doing. Now, I had to clean up the mess. Life is a juggling act.
Not only had I dropped an egg, but I also had to let go of some priorities. My house was in disarray from all I juggled. Something had to give. The Juggle
Many know the feeling. We do too many things for too long, and it becomes obvious we can’t do it all. Something suffers. In my case, it was a clean, well-kept home.Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. ~Colossians 3:23-24 NIVScripture does not provide a handbook entitled How to Live a Balanced Life. The principles are in the Bible, but we must dig for them. Just like the egg on the floor begged to be cleaned up, the things I neglected haunted me. I viewed them as constant reminders of how I had failed … how I couldn’t do it all. Due to life’s demands, I had set aside some things I should have prioritized. Neglect bogged me down. I resented the mundane tasks—even ministry responsibilities—that tore me away from other important matters, such as God and family. I needed to thank Jesus Christ and prioritize Him because He was my best friend.
Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. ~Colossians 3:17 NIV
The Solution
Breathe. Relax. Take a minute to recharge your faith. Then, figure out what loose ends need to be tied up. Show those things you once neglected some attention so they will no longer nag you. As you prioritize your relationship with Jesus Christ, the puzzle pieces of life become a beautiful array rather than an unrecognizable mess.Name your favorite way of re-centering your thoughts on Jesus.
Heavenly Father, sometimes I get so caught up in my ministry that I let go of other important matters. Give me the discernment to prioritize You so I’ll know how to manage the rest of my responsibilities. Help me clean up those messes so I can be effective in ministry, family, and matters of faith. In Jesus’s name, amen.
