Let Your Face Shine
In the same way let your light shine before men that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.
~Matthew 5:16 NIV
Shine
Have you ever felt as if you couldn’t let your face shine?
The early morning gloom hung in the air as I strolled around the yard with my dog, Poppy. All I could think of was the warm house and the cup of coffee waiting for me. I had no desire to be outside in the cold.
Emma, our neighbor, stopped to greet us on her way to the bus stop, her face shining with happiness and eyes full of joy. As we chatted, the gloomy morning brightened. Conversation with her was refreshing.
In Matthew 5:14-16, Jesus taught the crowd who they were. He said, “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Emma shared the light that Jesus taught about. She brightened the day for Poppy and me. We do not realize how much a smile and a happy greeting will impact others. It may totally change their day. It changed mine.
Shine Christ’s Light
How about you? Do you hide your light or allow it to shine? If the troubles and cares of this world have dimmed your light, take all your cares to the Lord and leave them with Him. Ask Him to fill you afresh with the Holy Spirit, and He will.
As the darkness around us increases let your light and love shine brightly. As the light of Christ’s face shines on us, others will see it. Psalm 118:27a reminds us of this blessing: “The Lord is God, and He has made His light shine on us.”
Take every opportunity to let the Light of the World shine through you.
Father God, let the light of Your love shine through me so brightly that others may see that the difference Jesus living in me makes. Fill me with the joy and happiness that You give Your children. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
