Lekeisha Maldon: You Are Enough
I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.
~Psalm 34:1
If I am honest, I must say there are times when I don’t always feel as confident as I should. Every now and then, that little bug of insecurity will rear its head and cloud my mind with negative thoughts.
I get frustrated because my skin doesn’t look as vibrant as I wish. I hear for the umpteenth time how “skinny” I am. Or I see a beautiful woman in the store and wish I had a little more of her sparkle. My mind drifts. And the cycle begins. These thoughts might seem silly, but I’m just being real. Can you relate?
Wanting to break free from this pattern, I shared what was on my heart with a close friend. During our conversation, I was reminded of a simple fact: I can’t allow my insecurities or what others think of me to keep me in a negative space. I must be intentional about focusing on the truth. And the truth of the matter is I am enough. You are enough. We are more than enough. We are God’s handiwork. His masterpiece.
Masterpiece: A work done with extraordinary skill; a supreme intellectual or artistic achievement.
Let that sink in for a moment. As a child of the King, you’re not just another person walking down the street. The God of the universe created you with precision and skill. You are a living piece of art, reflecting the image of our living God. When He created you, He took His time. I don’t know about you, but when I reflect on that thought, it brings so much joy to my heart. There’s a quote that says, “Comparison is the thief of joy.” I couldn’t agree more. When we compare ourselves to others and allow the enemy to infiltrate our thought life, we miss experiencing the beauty of our uniqueness. There is, and will never be, anyone like you.
For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.
~Ephesians 2:10 NASB
May we no longer allow our minds to drift to places where it doesn’t belong or be so prideful to think that the God who makes no mistakes made a mistake when He created us. Can I get an amen?
So, what’s the point? No more comparisons. No more negative self-talk.
Remind yourself today of the truth. You are enough. You are His masterpiece. And God created you exactly the way He wanted you. If this isn’t your struggle, then encourage someone else today. You never know how it might brighten their day.
When you reflect on how God made you, what is your favorite characteristic He created in you?
Heavenly Father, thank You for creating me uniquely and with precision, exactly as You wanted me to be. Help me to rest securely in my self-worth, knowing I am enough and that I am Your masterpiece. Help me to live a life pleasing to You and to reflect often on Your majesty. Thank You for loving and fashioning me.
In Jesus’ name. Amen.
