Historic Value
But only those who are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
~Revelation 21:27 ESV
The property we purchased thirty-six years ago has historic value. Remnants of the iron furnace structure remain, which once served as the foundation of our small community. Two hundred years ago, Union Mining Company operated the furnace that employed most of the town’s inhabitants.
Historic Value
I find things on my property dating back to when the iron furnace was in full swing. One day, I found a round metal coin-shaped disc with a number stamped into it and a hole at the top. Employers used these round tokens to indicate each worker’s section in the event of a collapse or cave-in. This practice served as an accountability measure to discover trapped miners.
This world of sin each person labors in has dangers and pitfalls. But we can leave a legacy, a solid testimony, that points to our faith in Jesus Christ. Only God knows those who are trapped.
Spiritual Value
Thankfully, for those who decide to follow Jesus, God writes our names in the Book of Life. He marks our location for all of eternity. We are secure and safe in God’s hands.
We can leave a legacy that points to our faith in Jesus Christ. As your family and friends retrace your steps, ensure they find markers leading to God. Let them see your coin-shaped token hanging in your heavenly location.
Ask yourself and others to consider what historic value your life will leave after your death.
Father God, I desire to please You enough that those who come after me are guided to You. Let my historic value reveal that it only comes from knowing You. Amen.
