Hidden in the Darkness
Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me and lead me in the way everlasting!
~Psalm 139:23-24 ESV
SECRET
The night was dark and stormy. All the power was out, so I immediately searched for my flashlight, which was hidden in the darkness.
I had lived in this house for sixty-two years. I should have known the floor plan and each item in the house. Moving forward, I was face-to-face with unconfessed sins stored secretly. The pain of bringing things hidden in the dark into the light proved excruciating and disconcerting. I realized my heavenly Father had revealed my secret with a light brighter than the sun.
DISCONNECT
The above is a metaphor concerning our spiritual house. From the moment we accept Christ, we start a journey. With each passing day come choices–choices that line up with God’s will or hide in the darkness of unconfessed sin. If the latter happens, unconfessed sin takes root in our hearts and causes a disconnect from God’s power. This leads to a domino effect, impacting our walk with God and prayer life. When our sin remains unconfessed, we find ourselves disconnected and in the dark.
Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs the heart.
~ Proverbs 21:2 ESV
RECONNECT
We must be cautious about our choices. They may look right in our eyes but lead to discord. 1 Corinthians 4:4 states, “For I am not aware of anything against myself, but I am not thereby acquitted.” 1 Samuel 16:7b reads, “For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”
Fortunately, we can ask God to search our hearts for any grievous ways hidden in darkness. Asking God to search our hearts will halt the domino effect, reconnect us, and prevent darkness from taking root.
What does God see when He looks at your heart?
Lord Jesus, I thank you for seeing who I truly am. I pray that my heart reflects Your mercy and grace so that others may see You in me. Amen
