The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way.

I was driving home one day and heard a new song I loved on the radio. The song was just what I needed. And isn’t that just like God? He is always right on time. It was one of my God moments.

The Request

A couple of days later, I visited an extremely ill friend. I asked the Lord to allow me to hear my new favorite song. So, I turned on the radio, and the requested song played. God, who knows us by name and loves us beyond our understanding—our almighty, all-powerful Father—desires to bless us. And sometimes, He uses people to speak words of encouragement.

At one point, I was very discouraged and allowed life’s issues to drag me down. I was not walking in the sunshine of God’s Word. Unexpectedly, God used a Christmas bell ringer to encourage me. The gentleman rang the bell with a big smile and greeted everyone with “Merry Christmas.” I paid little attention to his greeting as I entered the store. I carried the weight of the workweek, financial worries, and hurting relationships and did not feel the season’s joy.

He will yet fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of joy.

~Job 8:21 NIV

But when exiting the store, I dropped money into the bucket. The ringer said, “He will yet fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of joy” (Job 8:21 NIV). I knew my heavenly Father had spoken directly to me through this gentleman. Those words felt like a breath of fresh air emanating straight from the mouth of God. And God did what the man promised. Over the next few weeks, small events filled me with the promised laughter.

The Answer

God is so good to each of us, and He knows exactly what we need. His timing is perfect. Our heavenly Father delights in blessing us in small ways. At just the right moment, He will speak the encouragement we need into our hearts. He does this because He loves us. We are His children, and He is our Father.

God has a plan for those who are gifted with encouragement. Tell God you are available. Or, if you long for a word of encouragement, tell Him this as well. He hears you, loves you, and will bless you in unexpected ways.
