Find the Director’s Cues
or this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;
~Colossians 1:9 KJV
My quest to find the director’s cues resulted in a backstage pass to The Promise. What a thrilling Christmas production of Jesus’ life.
Cue: The Promise
Performed by a huge cast, the drama featured opulent kingly costumes, dramatic flair, and poignant moments. I was enthralled with the brilliant entourage of biblical characters. When the director offered a personal tour before the action began, I jumped at the chance. My heart skipped a beat because I would get to peek behind the curtains and observe trade secrets.
She introduced us to the actor who played Jesus. He shook my hand as he waited patiently for the makeup artist to apply his stripes. The director then showed us resplendent angel wings, resting confidently on wall hooks high above the actors off-stage left.
I was fascinated by her explanation of creating families, to which the actors and support personnel belonged. Heads of these families ensured that information was passed along and needs were met. After the play, she allowed us to peek at the six-inch-thick book which contained blocking, the director’s cues, and the rest of the secrets to the play’s success.
Cue: The Play
Waiting in the wings of God’s grand stage, a kaleidoscope of Bible men and women anticipated their moment. Round-eyed and struck with amazement and wonder, we are mesmerized by their beauty and charisma. But behind the scenes, the Great Director, the LORD Himself, carefully and brilliantly constructs their stories. With far more eternal weight than simple entertainment, they command our attention. As they perform on the great stage of the Bible, their jewels glint with power. Their profiles starkly contrast with the crowds of common people.
Cue: Our Audition
On center stage, we are one with these world-renowned characters as they encounter heart-stopping experiences. We walk into their stories as we immerse ourselves in their richly detailed gowns and opulent palaces. We enter stage-right and listen to the Director of our lives in our own stories. He superimposes His cues to us through their drama and brings the fullness of His presence.
So, grab your backstage pass. We’ll meet behind the curtain, watch the inner workings of Bible stories, and talk with the Director. He’ll give us some pointers that will enable us to absorb the play from His perspective. Reading Bible verses, such as the following one, enables the Holy Spirit to remind us at decision times of God’s direction.
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
~John 14:26 KJV
Then, through the confusion of our earthly lives, we can pray the Colossians 1:9 prayer. As we follow God’s cues, He guides us through His script for our lives. Find the Director’s cues and enjoy.
Quote a Bible verse and tell how the divine words guided you in making a decision.
Father God, please help me to seek your guidance when I make decisions. In Jesus’ name, amen.
