Evelyn Mason Wells: Made Free
I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
~Exodus 20:2 NASB
Before I accepted God’s grace and forgiveness, I was enslaved by my desire to live up to self-imposed unrealistic expectations.
I was intimidated by those who always seemed to “get it right” while I seemed to get it wrong. When I began to trust Jesus, I learned to lean on Him. He showed me His strength when I was weak. He picked me up when I fell. Finally, I got it! I realized people accepted me for myself, and I didn’t have to pretend anymore.
The Hebrew children were also enslaved. God brought them out of Egypt, where they had been enslaved for 400 years. Even today, most of us are enslaved in our own “Egypt.” It could be an addiction, bad habits, debt, or failure to forgive. It could be envy or low self-esteem.
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
~Matthew 5:16 NKJV
I love to write and have done so most of my life but, until a few years ago, I never discussed my passion for writing. I was afraid others would say, “Who do you think you are?” As I grew in Christ, I gained confidence in who I am in Him. I can now say without apology, “I am a writer, equipped by God to write for His glory. In Jesus alone, I have been made free.” I now recognize freely that God created me to write for His glory.
Friend, you are called too. What is it that you’d like to do for God’s glory? When we allow God to lead us, He sets us on the path He has planned for us, and we are free to be ourselves. He puts His glorious light within our spirits, enabling us to shine for Him.
In what ways you have you to become more confident in who you are in Christ Jesus?
Gracious God, help me to use the talents You’ve given me to glorify You.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
