Evelyn Mason Wells: Made Free
I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
~Exodus 20:2 NASB
Before I accepted God’s grace and forgiveness, I was enslaved by my desire to live up to the unrealistic expectations I had set for myself. I was intimidated by those who always seemed to “get it right.” Sometimes it seemed I always got it wrong.
God brought the Hebrews out of Egypt, where they were enslaved for 400 years. At one time or another, most of us are enslaved in our own Egypt. It could be an addiction, bad habits, debt, or failure to forgive. It could even be envy or low self-esteem.
When I began to trust Jesus, I began to lean on Him. He showed me His strength when I was weak. He picked me up when I fell.
Finally, I got it! I realized people accepted me for myself, and I didn’t have to pretend anymore. The mask came off.
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
~Matthew 5:16 NKJV
God created me to write for His glory.
I love to write and have done so most of my life but, until a few years ago, I never discussed my passion for writing. I was afraid others would say, “Who do you think you are?” As I grew in Christ, I gained confidence in who I am in Him. I can now say without apology, “I am a writer, equipped by God to write for His glory. In Jesus alone, I have been made free.”
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold all things have become new.
~2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV
When we allow the Holy Spirit to lead and to set us on the path that God has planned for us, we are free to be ourselves. He has made us free.
What are some ways you have changed your expectations which enabled you to become more confident in who you are in Christ?
Gracious God, who created the vast universe and all it contains, have made plans for each one of us, and You love us with an everlasting love. You are faithful and true, and You redeem us and give us new life. I ask You to take the talents You have given to me, and use them glorify You.
Through the Holy Spirit and in Jesus’s name I humbly pray, Amen.

Evelyn.. I love the statement when we allow the Holy Spirit to lead and set us on the path that God has planned for us, we are free to be ourselves. Amen and Amen. Powerful writing and thank you for being obedient to what God has purposed you with.
Thank you so much for your encouragement. I had a lot to learn, not the least self-confidence. I finally realized God gave me this talent to write for Him and for me to reach people all over with my testimony. He didn’t call me to write just for myself, but He totally called me to write for Him.
Thank you so much. I love writing for God’s glory!
