Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.~Hebrews 4:14 NIV
Several years ago, I had an unexpected and welcomed opportunity to visit Israel. Since that time, the Bible has come alive for me.
My fellow travelers and I experienced amazing sights. Each stop seemed better than the last and trying to take everything in felt overwhelming. However, we had a great guide who answered our questions and read scriptures regarding events that had taken place at each site we visited. It was glorious to be there to see and touch the places our Lord had been.
As wonderful as the sightseeing was, my experience of heartseeing was even better. … I could envision Jesus taking time to minister to all who came to Him no matter whether they needed healing, restoration, or forgiveness.Evelyn Mason Wells, contributing author to Love Knots: Stories of Faith, Family, and Friendships
As wonderful as the sightseeing was, my experience of heartseeing was even better. I could feel the very presence of God, as I experienced this Spiritual homeland of mine. Indeed, Israel did feel like my home, and a part of me never wanted to leave. At every stop, I could envision Jesus taking time to minister to all who came to Him no matter whether they needed healing, restoration, or forgiveness. After all, love compelled Him to give up His heavenly residence for a season, in order to take on the mantle of humanity with all of its temptations and trials.
For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.~Hebrews 4:15-16 NKJV
Although Jesus never sinned, He understands our weakness and temptations. He took all of our sins on Himself and willingly died on a cruel cross, shedding His blood to atone for our sins, thereby becoming our High Priest.Although Jesus never sinned, He understands our weakness and temptations. Jesus did not glorify Himself to become a High Priest. God ordained Him to become our High Priest, and He will forever be so. We can approach His throne of grace boldly and with confidence, knowing we will receive mercy. It is wonderful to know that no matter what we have done and how we have disobeyed, there is forgiveness and restoration for us because Jesus Christ is our High Priest.
That visit to Israel caused me to see and feel Jesus in my heart, but one day I will see Him face to face. Glory!

Father God, I am grateful for Jesus Christ going to the cross to willingly give His life to atone for my sins, and becoming the High Priest. Thank You for loving me so much that You made provision for me to live forever with You in glory through Your Son’s actions. You are faithful and true, and I give You praise. Fill me with enthusiasm and eagerness so I may serve You more fully. Place within my heart an urgency to carry out Your mission wherever You send me. Let me show Your love, mercy, and grace to everyone I meet. When others look at me, let them see our High Priest Jesus instead, and be drawn to the free gift of salvation You give us through Him.
In the holy and precious Name of Jesus, Amen.
