“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.”~Matthew 5:14 ESV
As a child, I can remember the day I received my first flashlight. This illuminated the darkness around me and gave me a safe passage.
I am a fan of flashlights. They guide us to see the dangers that lure around us. The only catch for them to work is that we must have batteries and be able to turn them on. A flashlight with no batteries, or one that is turned off, is of no use to anyone. It’s like having the Word of God in us but not sharing it. Storing the Word of God benefits us, but letting it shine through us benefits others. As they see our good works, they also give glory to God.
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”~Matthew 5:16 ESV
As we shine our lights, we proclaim that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior. With His empowerment, His good works shine within us. This reflection will lead others from the darkness of sin into the light of a loving God. May we always be an emissary of God’s love.
Think of yourself as a flashlight of God’s Word. Are you illuminating the path for others?
Heavenly Father, help me to shine brightly, like a flashlight illuminating Your Word, so others can see Your goodness.
In Jesus’ name. Amen.
