Don’t Crash but Listen
KITE TROUBLE
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night.
~Psalm 1:1-2 ESV
Don’t crash but listen was a lesson Jeffery learned the hard way.
The March day was brisk and windy, making it perfect for flying a kite.
“Dad, can you take me to fly my kite?” Jeffery asked his dad, who was on the phone.
His father’s look caused Jeffery to pause before he said anything else. But after a few minutes, Jeffery grew impatient and went outside to fly his kite without his father. The wind picked up and ripped the kite string out of his hands. Consequently, the kite was gone with the wind. Jeffery’s facial expression went from happy to sad. If he had listened to instructions, the kite would have been safe in his father’s hands.
FATHER GOD’S ADVICE
I recall when I didn’t listen to my father’s instructions as a child. The sinful nature we are born with makes disobedience easy, so we need godly instructions to avoid life’s pitfalls.
Our heavenly Father has given us the Holy Bible–a life manual that helps us avoid Satan’s snares and traps. 1 Peter 5:8 reads, “Be on your guard and stay awake. Your enemy, the devil, is like a roaring lion, sneaking around to find someone to attack.” Meditating on God’s Word keeps us on a straight and narrow path and keeps us from crashing like a runaway kite.
The law of his God is in his heart; his steps do not slip.
~Psalm 37:31 ESV
SCRIPTURES TO REMEMBER
To ground our choices in God’s Word, we should do the following:
- Know the Word
2 Timothy 2:14 says, “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman who needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
- Believe the Word
Mark 1:14-15 says, “The time has come! God’s kingdom will soon be here. Turn back to God and believe the good news!
- Speak the Word
James 1:22 says, “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”
- Speak Up for the Word
1 Peter 3:15 says, “Honor Christ and let him be the Lord of your life. Always be ready to give an answer when someone asks you about your hope.”
As adults, we make numerous choices daily, so grounding them in Scripture is vital. Jeremiah 29:11 states, “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'” We must stay grounded in God’s Word to realize this hope and future.
What are some ways you can stay grounded in God’s Word?
Lord Jesus, I thank you for the Bible. I pray that I will spend time in Your Word daily. Furthermore, may I be a light in the dark and lost world. Amen
