Glenda Shouse: The Quiet
As I was sitting by a beautiful lake, the quiet was like a blanket of serenity wrapping around me. Water lapped against the shore, the breeze swirled through the trees releasing a shower of red and orange leaves that floated to the snow-dappled ground. The smell of Autumn was in the air as the peace of God surrounded me. What a “Wow!” moment I was experiencing.
We can’t sit beside a lake every day, but we can have the peace Jesus promised us. Read the promise here in Isaiah 26:3 NKJV,
You wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed in You: because he trusts in You.
~Isaiah 26:3 NKJV
This reminds us to focus our thoughts and fix our minds on the Lord Jesus and all He has done for us. As we do this we will experience this wonderful peace no matter what circumstances we face.
Even the disciples returning from ministering after having told Jesus all they had experienced, needed time to recover. Jesus said to them,
Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.
~Mark 6:31 NKJV
He knew they needed a time of physical and spiritual renewal. And so do we.
As we fix our thoughts on Jesus, we can push aside the stress and distractions of the day. Then we are free to focus on Him, and His peace fills us. The words in John 16:33 NKJV reveal the peace Jesus offers,
These things I have spoken to you that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation, but be of good cheer. I have overcome the world.
~John 16:33 NKJV
In Jesus, we find a place of tranquility. Therefore, my friend, no matter what is going on around you, invite the Prince of Peace into your day and be refreshed. He is with you, and just like the quiet lapping of the lake as the Autumn leaves descend, He desires to renew your spirit by His nearness, quietness, and love.
As we fix our thoughts on Jesus, we can push aside the stress and distractions of the day. #VineWords #GlendaShouse #TheQuiet Click To TweetWhere is your favorite quiet place in nature located?
