Glenda Shouse: The One Who Never Changes
Therefore thus says the Lord God, “Behold I lay in Zion a stone for a foundation, a tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation; whoever believes will not act hastily.”
~Isaiah 38:16 NKJV
Shifting sand, sinking ground, the Earth buckling and splitting open…. The world around us is constantly changing. It seems to be a state of flux. Where do we turn? Where do we go to find stability, assurance, and a firm foundation? No matter what is happening in our lives, we can have a firm foundation. Our heavenly Father calls us to Himself even in the midst of turmoil.
Our heavenly Father calls us to Himself even in the midst of turmoil. Click To TweetAs my mother and I watched the weather broadcast, the meteorologist warned his audience of a storm that was moving through the area. We saw the lightning, but we soon realized it was very severe. The power lines were snapping! We rushed to the basement door, praying with every step, that God would protect us. Mom and I sat on the top step and prepared to scoot down the steps quickly.
Suddenly, we heard a roaring of wind that truly did sound like a freight train. But we were surrounded by the Presence of peace. We knew that no matter what happened, God was with us. The storm ended quickly and I went upstairs to see if everything was okay. There was damage to the house but we praised God that He protected us from harm.
Scripture assures us that God has made for us an eternal place of security. He has laid a foundation that cannot be shaken by man or by natural events. There is only one place that is totally secure—it is the eternal presence that we find in Jesus Christ.

Scripture assures us that God has made for us an eternal place of security. He has laid a foundation that cannot be shaken by man or by natural events. There is only one place that is totally secure—it is the eternal presence that we find in Jesus Christ. If He is my Lord and Savior, then I have an assurance because I know where I stand. I know where to place my trust, and I know who holds my future. Jesus does! Even if the world around us crumbles, He receives us.

In Proverbs, we read of God’s provision for us in uncertain times, “When the whirlwind passes by, the wicked is no more, but the righteous has an everlasting foundation” (Proverbs 10:25 NKJV). We can thank our Father for providing what is needed at the right moment.
When storms buffet your life, you don’t have to face them alone; our eternal Father surrounds us with His love and security, and He sent His Son to know you are loved. The Holy Spirit of God remains with us until such time that Father God calls us home. Are you resting on His sure foundation?
Share how God helped you through a frightening or uncertain time.
Heavenly Father, thank You for being our shield and strong tower, the One who is the same, yesterday, today and forever. Amen
