The One Who Never Changes
Therefore thus says the Lord God, “Behold I lay in Zion a stone for a foundation, a tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation; whoever believes will not act hastily.”
~Isaiah 38:16 NKJV
Shifting sand, sinking ground, the earth buckling and splitting open. The one who never changes is by our side.
As my mother and I watched the weather broadcast, the meteorologist warned his audience of a storm moving through the area. We saw the lightning, but we soon realized it was severe. Power lines snapped. We rushed to the basement door and prayed that God would protect us. Mom and I sat on the top step and prepared to scoot down the steps quickly.
Suddenly, we heard a roaring that sounded like a freight train. But we were surrounded by the presence of peace. We knew that no matter what happened, God was with us. The storm ended quickly, and I went upstairs to see if everything was okay. The house sustained damage, but we praised God for protecting us from harm.
Our world constantly changes. It seems to be a state of flux, so where do we turn to find stability, assurance, and a firm foundation? No matter what happens, we can have a firm foundation. Our heavenly Father calls us to Himself, even amid turmoil.
Scripture assures us that God has made an eternal place of security for us. He has laid a foundation that cannot be shaken by people or natural events. The eternal presence we find in Jesus Christ is the only secure place. If He is my Lord and Savior, I have assurance because I know where I stand. I know where to place my trust and who holds my future. Even if the world around us crumbles, He receives us.
In Proverbs, we read of God’s provision for us in uncertain times, “When the whirlwind passes by, the wicked is no more, but the righteous has an everlasting foundation” (Proverbs 10:25 NKJV). We can thank our Father for providing what is needed at the right moment.
When storms buffet your life, you don’t have to face them alone. Without a doubt, our eternal Father surrounds us with His love and security. He sent His Son to assure us of His love. The Holy Spirit of God remains with us until Father God calls us home. Are you resting on His sure foundation?
