Glenda Shouse: He Loves Me
That Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
~Ephesians 3:17b-19
He loves me, he loves me not, he loves me, he loves me not…
I remember plucking a daisy and pulling off the petals and saying these words. It’s something children enjoy doing. I know I did. Of course, I was trying to see if my imaginary boyfriend loved me. Being a child, I really did not understand love. I knew my family loved me.
As an adult it was difficult to realize God loved me even when I messed up. There was something in my heart that held me back from accepting my heavenly Father’s unconditional love. I could not understand God loves me all the time. His love is not based on my performance. He continues to love me. Whether I’m good, bad, or indifferent, God loves me still.
During a time of prayer with two of my sisters in the Lord, one of them drew me a picture. It was a daisy with lots of petals. Some of the petals were falling off and on each petal was written “He loves me”. My sister looked at me and said, “There are no ‘He loves me not’s.’”
