Charles E. Maldon Jr.: The Master’s “Right Tool”
The house, which had been vacant for nine months, had a yard that needed work.
Trees had overgrown the fence, and the shrubs needed trimming. Numerous weeds had overtaken what was once a vegetable garden. I was overwhelmed by the work that I needed to accomplish, but I knew I had brought the necessary tools to help my friend.
As I pulled weeds, dug out brush, and ran the lawnmower, I saw the yard transform from a landscaping mess to a masterpiece. Without an ax, hoe, and weed killer, I could not have finished the task effectively. But my tools were not helpful until I used them.
The Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?” And he said, “A staff.”
~Exodus 4:2 NASB
The Lord called Moses to a task that seemed impossible to Moses, but God equipped him with a staff to get the job done. We must trust God, knowing any job will get done if we have the right tools.
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
~Philippians 4:13 NASB
God equips us as His right tool to accomplish His Kingdom purposes. In His hands, we can fulfill His purpose because He knows how to wield us as His tools. Moses was perfect for the job, but because Moses lacked trust, he did not think he was suitable for the job.
If we see ourselves as God sees us, we will respond differently. The disciples reached the masses because they were willing to be the right tool. Jesus Christ creates each of us with a purpose. When we submit to His will, we will see the rewards of being used in His kingdom.
I am glad the Father does not show us all that is in store because, like Moses, we may second guess and make excuses. Christ desires to hear our yes. The right tool will be effective no matter how great the circumstances.
Do you feel adequate to accomplish your God-given calling? Surrender to the Master’s hand without doubting.
Father, thank You for the plans You have for me. Even when I do not feel equipped, You equip me for purpose. When the assignment seems overwhelming, assure me I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Thank You for using me to do Your will.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
