Diane Virginia: Breakfast of Champions (3-Min)
Delight thyself also in the LORD. Psalm 37:4a KJV

Every morning, I prepare breakfast for our dogs.
I rotate between doggies, feeding them morsels from a designated fork. Occasionally, one will rise. If I say, “sit,” the dog will listen, but only if I preface this with their name. Otherwise, she assumes I’m talking to another pack member. Our senior pooch stomps during the entire breakfast. She wants to make sure I notice her. Our youngest gal takes each morsel with gusto, and our youngest male snorts between bites. Theirs is a breakfast fit for champions.
While reflecting on my fur babies’ morning antics, I thought about how God feeds me from His Word. Psalm 37:3 KJV reads, “Trust in the Lord, and do good…verily thou shall be fed.” I can apply this truth to the spiritual as well as to the natural realm.
God’s words are so kind. For instance, twenty-six times in Psalm 136 He reminds me His good thoughts toward me outnumber the grains of sand on a beach (Psalm 139:17-18).

Sometimes I find myself thinking, Are You calling my name, Lord? I try to trust these promises are for me, but when problems spill like cornflakes hitting the kitchen floor and I’m scrambling to pick up the crumbs, I wonder. I know I shouldn’t think this way, but the reality is, doubts do creep in.
As I fixed coffee one morning, I decided it was time I had a breakfast fit for a champion. I chose this one verse and nibbled on it all day, “Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thy heart. (Psalm 37:4 KJV)” I wanted to digest this slowly, so God’s goodness could seep into every cell of my being. By the end of the day, I was ready for another morsel. On and on I nibbled, for days on end, eating the Word of God as a champion’s breakfast.
What about you, friend? Are you ready to receive the goodness of the Lord that He’s speaking about you? He loves you and the banqueting table the Lord prepares for you is filled with juicy morsels. So pull up a comfy chair, scooch up to the table, pick up your fork, and dine. You, my friend, are God’s champion.
Father God, help me to dine with delight at Your banqueting table.
Breakfast of Champions is a true story.

There is no denying that in my life the Word of God is much more effective when it is my daily bread, not my occasional bread.
Thank you. I agree. 🙂
Diane, this is beautiful. God has such gems in His word, and it’s impossible to absorb all its facets in just one reading.
Thank you, Evelyn. I enjoyed writing this. 🙂
The perfect way to begin the day. O taste and see that the “Word” is good! How blessed is the man who takes refuge in “it.” (my version)
Thank you, Karen, for your version of this verse. 🙂 Yes, the Lord is good, and He is our refuge. 🙂 Your comment made me smile.
Thank you for sharing your story. Every morning before I do anything I meditate on Scripture and I figure out how to apply it to my life in that moment. It’s a rewarding way to start the day.
Yes, Maria, I agree. We need to clothe ourselves with the Word of God daily. 🙂
Thank you, Diane for this reminder. It is important to feed on God’s Word daily.
Sure is, Stephanie. I agree. And the rewards are delightful. 🙂
