A Heart That Fully Trusts
I so desperately want to have a heart that fully trusts God. One hundred percent without worry or doubt. That is “goals” as the young people say.
The fact that I worry about anything distresses me, and I apologize to God every time. I asked Him how I could break free of fretting about things. He told me to remember and recite. Remembering all He has done for me fills my heart with joy and chases the fears away. I keep a prayer journal app on my phone where I record my answered prayers and instances when God did something so sweet for me.
For the second part of the plan to move into total trust, I recite the Word of God to myself every time mistrust creeps in. My favorite verse is John 14:1.
Do not let your heart be troubled (afraid, cowardly). Believe [confidently] in God and trust in Him, [have faith, hold on to it, rely on it, keep going and] believe also in Me.
~John 14:1 AMP
But one of the first Bible verses I memorized was Proverbs 3:5-6.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.
~Proverbs 3:5-6 NASB
This is my emergency recitation for when my mind really starts to spin. Sometimes, it gets shortened and repeated urgently, “Trust in the Lord, Trust in the Lord,” until I have calmed down and begin to see that I need to focus on God. Then I remember a time when He has helped me, and I move closer to a heart that trusts God.
Is there a time or situation where you needed to trust God more? Join me in remembering His loving help and reciting His mighty Word.
Father, please forgive me when I lose sight of who You are, and I think I can handle things on my own by worrying about them. So foolish. Thank You that You use the foolish things to confound the wise. Teach me to trust You completely. In Jesus’ name I ask, amen.
